Cousine Island, Calamianes, Palawan, The Philippines
I have dubbed this Cousine Island because that is the island that it most closely reminds me of. The other Cousine Island (not for sale by the way) is located in the Maldives and is one of the most exclusive island resorts in the world.
The Cousine Island that we are selling (not its real name!) is almost the exact same shape. It has the large ridgeline on the back of the island and the large semi-circular beach with pure white sand as its namesake..
The ridgeline on the island runs north south, with the beach facing north, east and south, with the southern portion of the beach jutting out from the island thus giving a western aspect where the sunsets can be watched. The beach is very wide, approximately 30 metres wide at one point and the beach faces a panorama of the surrounding islands.
The ridgeline and hills comprise the western one third of the island, while the beach and flat land behind it comprises the eastern two thirds of the island. The hills are covered in virgin rainforest with large tropical hardwoods and at the base of the hill are located banana and papaya plantations. The large flat area between the base of the hill and the beach comprises approximately 10-11 hectares (24-26 acres). This land is planted with mature coconut trees and the occasional large rainforest tree.
The beach itself is the most magnificent feature of the island, being very wide, extremely white and fine sand and commanding stunning views in almost every direction one looks. The sands dip down into the surrounding waters which are the most vivid turquoise and aquamarine imaginable. These waters are littered with pristine corals which are inhabited by more varieties of fish than the Caribbean.
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful islands that we have for sale, and one of the top three that we have that would be suitable for the location of a large-scale resort operation. The whole island has superb views, and its situation right in the middle of an archipelago makes it ideal for a base for island hopping. The island is surrounded by dozens of beautiful islands, remote beaches, great diving, snorkeling and yet it is readily accessible (3 hours by local boat or 1.5 hours via speedboat) to the present El Nido airport (see http://www.el-nido.net ) and will be only be 45 minutes by speedboat from the new El Nido airport being built north of town.
The island also has full cellphone coverage as the transmitter tower is located on top of a hill visible for the island meaning that phone calls and internet access are readily available.
SURROUNDING AREA
The surrounding area is home to tribal people called the Tagbanua, who have an animistic religion and live by fishing and collecting birds nests from local caves for the famous Birds Nest Soup.
Turtles, Dugong, Dolphins, Whale sharks and hundreds of varieties of corals and fish are prevalent in the surrounding seas. The islands of the area are home to rare species such as the Calamian Deer and the miniature Leopard Cat. Many rare species of birds and butterflies also inhabit the area.
The main island of the archipelago has two 17th century Spanish forts, and the surrounding waters are home to numerous Ming Dynasty Chinese, and 16th & 17th century Spanish shipwrecks.
NOTE! There will also be a Seaplane business starting up in this area in the next 6-12 months and flight from the island to nearby towns will only take 15-30 minutes and will be quite cheap.
